The town is divided into two large bays, Levante and Poniente, dominated by the emblematic silhouette of the Castle of San Juan de las Águilas. This fortress, now a museum, can be visited. From the top you have a marvellous view of the whole town.
In the centre of the town centre is the Plaza de España, popularly known as the Glorieta, from which the main arteries of the town start. In the words of El Viajero, the Glorieta "has the exotic haven of a central garden. Bougainvilleas, palm trees and hundred-year-old ficus trees from Brazil give the place the appearance of a shady, secret bubble. The neo-Mudéjar façade of the town hall does not clash with the exoticism and exuberance of the vegetation.
Two picturesque windmills, the imposing architectural design of the Auditorium and, at the other end of the Levante Bay, the Pico del Aguilica, a curious rock formation resembling an eagle's beak, stand out in the city's skyline. From its vantage point, you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset.
